What to Expect
St Lucia Carnival offers two distinct experiences: the main Road March in Castries, and the Dennery Segment — a raw, ancestral street party in the east-coast fishing village of Dennery that has become one of the most talked-about carnival events in the Caribbean.

Getting Around
Minibuses are the backbone — green number plates with an M prefix, fares roughly EC$2.50 to EC$8 depending on distance.
There is no timetable: they run when full, frequently at peak times, less so in the evenings and barely at all on Sundays.
Castries to Gros Islet and Rodney Bay is the busiest corridor and the easiest route to pick up.
Driving is on the left. A temporary St Lucian permit is required alongside your own licence.
Taxis are unmetered — agree the fare before the journey, and expect higher rates after dark.

When to Book
St Lucia Carnival mas band registration typically opens March–May for a July carnival. Dennery Segment events are generally accessible on the night — no advance booking needed, just show up. Flights to Hewanorra (UVF) are best booked 3–4 months ahead. Rodney Bay and Gros Islet are the best base areas — central, well-connected and close to most fete venues.
