Barbados Crop Over runs late July to early August 2027, building to two unmissable nights: Foreday Morning on 2 August (early hours) where you get covered in paint, powder and mud alongside thousands of revellers, then Grand Kadooment Parade on 2 August — the costume parade through the streets of Bridgetown. The festival spans weeks of fetes, boat rides, all-inclusives and live soca performances. Stay near St. Lawrence Gap for the easiest access to events. Register for your mas band costume 2–3 months early as popular bands sell out fast. Backline costumes start around £320+, frontline from £480+. Taxis are widely available and many locals offer personal driver services for the week.
What to Expect
Barbados Crop Over is a bicentennial tradition celebrating the end of sugar cane harvest — and the smoothest entry point into Caribbean carnival. Gorgeous sequined costumes adorned with feathers, jewels and bright embellishments parade down Spring Garden Highway on Grand Kadooment Day, the island's most exciting day of the year. Smaller scale than Trinidad, beautifully organised, and the beach is there waiting for you afterwards.

Three kinds of bus, all a flat BBD$3.50: large blue government buses with a yellow stripe, yellow privately-run minibuses, and white ZR vans with a maroon stripe.
Blue buses are a farebox system — carry exact change, drivers give none. Minibuses and ZRs have a conductor who makes change.
ZR vans do not run to a timetable: they leave when full, you flag them from the roadside, and they are considerably faster and louder than the blue buses.
Driving is on the left. A temporary Barbadian driving permit is required on top of your own licence.
Taxis are unmetered — agree the fare before you set off, or use an app and skip the negotiation.
Ride-hailing works well here: pickUP Barbados is the established local app, connecting you to licensed taxi drivers at a set price, and Uber launched on the island in late 2025 with Uber Taxi, Reserve and Hourly. Download both before you fly — see Ride Share Apps above.

When to Book
Crop Over 2026 runs July 3 – August 4, with Grand Kadooment on the closing day. Mas band registration typically opens January–February — significantly more relaxed than Trinidad. Flights are best booked 3–5 months in advance. The major fetes (Cohobblopot, Pic-O-De-Crop finals) sell tickets from around May. Accommodation in the peak areas (St Lawrence Gap, west coast) fills up fast for Kadooment weekend — book at least 4 months ahead.
