Atlanta Caribbean Carnival takes over Memorial Day weekend and runs on the energy of one of the biggest Caribbean diaspora populations in the American South. J'ouvert kicks off at Underground Atlanta, the Mas Parade moves down Peachtree Street, and Festival Village in Vine City carries the rest. It is a city carnival — bars, venues and after-parties rather than beaches.

Getting Around
MARTA is the rail and bus network, and the Five Points and Vine City stations put you close to the carnival sites.
Atlanta is sprawling and not walkable between venues — plan on MARTA, Uber or Lyft rather than hoofing it.
Driving is on the right; traffic on I-285 and the downtown connector is heavy on Memorial Day weekend.
Underground Atlanta, where J'ouvert is held, sits directly above the Five Points MARTA station.
Parking downtown on parade day is expensive and scarce; take the train.

When to Book
Atlanta Caribbean Carnival runs over Memorial Day weekend, the last weekend in May. British Airways, Virgin and Delta all fly direct from London to Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL), so flights are straightforward — but Memorial Day is a major US travel weekend, so book by February and sort ESTA early. Stay central or near a MARTA line: Atlanta is spread out and the carnival sites are not walkable from one another. Mas band registration opens in late winter. Because this is a long weekend rather than a season, two or three days covers the whole thing comfortably.
